A Temecula native will play a role in "Dirty Girl," which will open in theaters Oct. 7.

Natalie Amenula, who grew up in Wine Country, will play the role of "Benita," in the film, which was directed by Abe Sylvia, according to the actress' website.

She recently finished work on "The Birthday Present" with Oscar-winning director and producer Jonathan Sanger, said Ricky Brava, a spokesperson for Amenula.

The movie tells the story of a rebellious teen who befriends a pudgy closeted gay boy in a small town in Oklahoma. The cast includes Mary Steenburgen, Nicholas D'Agosto, Tim McGraw, Dwight Yoakam, Brian Baumgartner, Elsie Fisher, Maeve Quinlan and Nate Hartley.
